On Tuesday, the Central Anticorruption Bureau, commissioned by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Białystok, detained four people associated with the energy industry, including the former president of Ostrołęka Power Plant and the manager of PGE Dystrybucja. The agents also searched the house of one of the PiS MPs.
According to tvn24.pl, the CBA action is related to the orders placed by PGE Dystrybucja of one of the private companies based in Ostrołęka. According to the investigative findings, the contracts were awarded without the required tenders. The president of the company is Edward S., detained on Tuesday, and his son Bartosz is the vice-president.
According to tvn24.pl sources, the CBA also searched the house of the PiS MP in Ostrołęka and the apartment in Warsaw used by his daughter on Tuesday.
“Investment of special importance”
Edward S. was the president of Ostrołęka Power Plant from February 2018 to June 2019. As Gazeta Wyborcza wrote, he owed the job to the intercession of one of the PiS deputies at the then Minister of the Treasury, Dawid Jackiewicz.
“We are starting an investment of special importance for our partners – Energa and Enea. Together with the contractor, we will have several years of hard work. We are convinced that, using GE’s experience, we will complete the task set before us and in 2023 we will start operating the new power plant – said Edward S. still as the president of Elektrownia Ostrołęka.
In mid-October 2018, preparatory work began at the power plant construction site. In the fall of 2019, PGE withdrew from talks on cooperation on the project. Work is now underway to change the coal technology to gas technology in Block C. The construction has cost many millions, it is not known whether they will ever be regained.
Earlier, in May 2019, Edward S. ceased to be the president of the power plant.
In March last year, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna informed that in 2008-2009 Edward S., with the help of a company from Bielsko Podlaski, brought 811 thousand zlotys to the Ostrołęka Power Plant. tons of coal from Russia.
Another detainee, Łukasz C., from April 2016 to April 2019 was the president of Energa Serwis, a company belonging to the Energa concern. At the time of his appointment as president, C. was 28 years old. His father sits on the supervisory board of one of the companies belonging to the PGE concern, and together with the PiS MP, with whom the CBA conducted searches on Tuesday, they operate in the Foundation “Museum of Cursed Soldiers”.
We have not been able to confirm the name of the fourth detainee.
Searches in dozens of places
– The company does not comment on the activities of services that operate in accordance with the law. The case concerns tenders organized in 2014 – 2019 by the Warsaw branch of our company. I can confirm that among the four detained people is the deputy director general of the PGE Dystrybucja branch in Warsaw – Mariusz Furmanek, spokesman for PGE Dystrybucja told tvn24.pl.
The website Moja-Ostrołeka.pl was the first to inform about the fact that there are people associated with PiS among the arrests.

The only information from the services is a laconic message on the CBA website: “The officers of the Gdańsk Delegation of the Central Anticorruption Bureau, together with the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Białystok, detained four people in connection with the suspicion of giving and accepting financial benefits. in exchange for the disclosure of information relevant to the tendering procedures conducted by PGE Dystrybucja SA At the same time, searches are carried out in several dozen places throughout the country, among others at the headquarters of the PGE Dystrybucja SA capital group. They will hear accusations there.
