For two days, construction of a field hospital for people suffering from COVID-19 has been underway at the National Stadium in Warsaw. At the beginning there will be room for 500-1000 people.
According to the journalists of “Fakt” TVN and the tvn24.pl portal, work has begun at the National Stadium to launch the first temporary field hospital in Poland. It is to be built on the pitch of the stadium. – The installation for the delivery and distribution of oxygen for patients is being prepared – says our interlocutor involved in the construction of the hospital. Cold rooms are also to be built.
According to our unofficial information, the order to coordinate the construction of a temporary field hospital was received from Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki by the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Michał Dworczyk. Today, a meeting of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and the management of the National Stadium took place on this matter.
“It is possible that the hospital will be ready to admit patients this week”
According to TVN and tvn24.pl sources, heavy equipment may appear at the stadium on Monday and the construction of a field hospital is to start at full speed. – It is possible that the hospital will be ready to admit patients this week – says our interlocutor.
At the beginning, 500 beds will be prepared, ultimately the number may be up to 2,000. Cold stores are also to be built at the stadium – it should be assumed that some of the sick will not be saved, so their bodies are to be placed in specially prepared places.

– Equipment from the warehouses of the Material Reserves Agency will be delivered to hospitals. We have warehouses full of suitable equipment. There is no fear that something will be missing – tells us the interlocutor associated with the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
Temporary hospital locations were tipped towards the end of the summer vacation. – We have many backup locations, in case there is a need to open more similar units – tells us the person who is involved in coordinating the construction of the hospital at Narodowy.
On October 9, the voivode of Mazovia, Konstanty Radziwiłł, announced that 1166 beds are intended for patients infected with COVID-19, and 94 intensive care beds with the participation of a ventilator. . The Covid hospitals were joined by the Czerniakowski Hospital at Stępińska Street, the Grochowski Hospital and 404 beds at the Ministry of Interior and Administration Hospital on Wołoska Street, including 50 beds with respirators. – This gives us a really great sense of security when it comes to treatment options – emphasized the voivode at a specially convened press conference. As a result, the number of beds increased.
Ten hospitals are in charge of the city in Warsaw. As Karolina Gałecka explained, the town hall spokeswoman, they are on the first covid level, which means that people who suspect infection are referred here. However, if after the test it turns out that the patient is healthy, he or she returns home. If his condition worsens, he is referred to the second stage, that is to infectious diseases, which are subordinated to the voivode.
On Friday, October 16, in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, patients with confirmed COVID-19 occupied 818 out of 1,457 hospital beds intended for patients with coronavirus. 66 out of 113 ventilators for COVID-19 patients were seized.
The number of occupied “COVID-19 beds” in hospitals and the number of ventilators used has been growing in Poland for several days. On October 1, more than two weeks ago, 2,560 beds and 159 ventilators were occupied. On Sunday morning, there were 8,076 occupied beds and 649 respirators.
