The driver of a Daewoo Lanos car hit a 9-year-old girl at a crosswalk and drove away. The witnesses did not remember the registration number of the car, and it is not visible on the video surveillance of a nearby store. So the policemen checked all such cars in the city. After a few hours, they reached the man.
The deduction took place on Tuesday at the pedestrian crossing at Plac Bohaterów in Człuchów (Pomeranian Voivodeship). The police received the report at 9.45. – Officers were sent to the scene immediately, and emergency services were also notified. Officers on the spot found that the girl was hit by a Daewoo Lanos car driver who drove away from the scene, says the asp. staff. Sławomir Gradek from the County Police Headquarters in Człuchów.
He adds that none of the witnesses remembered the car’s registration number. The boards were also not visible on the secured surveillance recording.
So the policemen decided to find the driver in a different way. – They checked all cars of this type in Człuchów in the police systems and after a few hours they reached the owner of the car who hit the girl – adds Gradek.
“He left because he said that the girl was okay”
The driver turned out to be a 64-year-old resident of Człuchów. – He admitted that he participated in the incident, but drove away because he said that the girl was okay – says the press officer.
The officers detained the 64-year-old’s driving license. After collecting all the materials and examining the monitoring, the case will be brought to court.
A 9-year-old girl was examined by a doctor. Apart from minor cuts, nothing serious happened to her.
The police did not make the recording of the secured monitoring available.
The officers call for special care both for pedestrians crossing the road and for drivers moving in the area of pedestrian crossings.
