According to the prosecutor’s office, N.’s arrest is the result of an international investigation conducted by a joint team of prosecutors from Poland and Ukraine as well as officers of the Central Anticorruption Bureau and the Ukrainian anti-corruption service NABU. The case is being supervised by prosecutors from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.

“This team was created due to the cross-border nature of the activities of an organized crime group,” said a spokeswoman for Chyr. Apart from Sławomir N., two more people were arrested – Dariusz Z., the former commander of the “GROM” Military Unit, and Jacek P., a businessman from Gdańsk.

Dariusz Z. commanded the GROM unit in the years 2008-2010. Later, from 2013 to 2016, he was the vice president of Przedsiębiorstwo Eksploatacji Rurociągów Naftowych (PERN) “Przyjaźń”. On one of the recordings from the so-called “tape scandal” that broke out in 2014, a conversation is recorded in which, among others, Dariusz Z. and Sławomir N. participate.
