Jerzy Wilk, PiS MP, died at the age of 66. Krzysztof Sobolewski, chairman of the executive committee of the Law and Justice party, Krzysztof Sobolewski, announced on Sunday the deputy’s death on Twitter.
MP Sobolewski wrote: “Rest in Peace, Friend. Give Him Eternal Rest, Lord, and Let the Eternal Light Shine on Him. Let Him Rest in Eternal Peace. Amen Jerzy Wilk”.
PiS spokesman Anita Czerwińska, informing about the death of MP Wilk, wrote “Goodbye, Friend. You will always remain in our hearts. RIP”.

Witold Wróblewski, the president of Elbląg, also expressed his condolences. “In the afternoon I received a sad news – Jerzy Wilk, Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the 8th and 9th term, former President of Elbląg in 2013-2014, a long-time local government official – Chairman of the City Council, councilor for several terms, is dead. Wives, Children, Family, Close I express my sympathy and regret in these difficult moments, wrote Witold Wróblewski.
Jerzy Wilk was a local government official, in the years 2013-14 the president of Elbląg and a deputy of the eighth and nineteenth term of office.
In the current term of the Sejm, he sat on the Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation Committee and the Local Government and Regional Policy Committee.
Activist of NSZZ “Solidarity”
He was born on March 15, 1955 in Elbląg. He was a graduate of the Higher School of Management and Entrepreneurship in Warsaw.
In the 1980s, he was involved in building the structures and activities of NSZZ “Solidarność”, then he co-founded the Civic Committee in Elbląg, he was a member of the Center Agreement, and then of Law and Justice.
He was elected to the city council of Elbląg many times; he was also the chairman of the city council. For 23 years he managed the Elbląska Spółdzielnia Niewidomych ELSIN.
In 2013, he became a candidate of Law and Justice for the presidency of Elbląg in early elections. In the first round, he obtained 31.8 percent. votes, which gave him the first place out of 10 candidates. In the second round of elections, he obtained the result of 51.7 percent. and won with the candidate of the Civic Platform. He was the president of Elbląg for a year and a half.
He was a supporter of the construction of the Vistula Spit ditch; argued that this investment would bring Elbląg enormous economic and social benefits and ensure security. As a deputy, he acted as a rapporteur for legislative work related to the construction of a new waterway connecting the Gdańsk Bay with the Vistula Lagoon.
In 1998 he received the Special Award of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy in the field of social assistance and combating unemployment. In 2001, he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit.
