On the door of one of the churches in Kościan (Greater Poland Voivodeship) there was a poster criticizing people voting in the presidential elections for Rafał Trzaskowski. As it was written, the vote for Andrzej Duda is a life of happiness and blessing.
We received photos of the poster, which appeared in front of the entrance to the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kościan, at Kontakt 24. The photo does not contain the name of the incumbent president or the candidate of the Civic Coalition. There are, however, percentages. On the left, 61.51 percent. – this is the result achieved by Rafał Trzaskowski in the city. On the right, 38.49 percent, that is the percentage of Kościan’s inhabitants who voted for Andrzej Duda.
An arrow pointing to the left, i.e. where Trzaskowski’s score, contains the description: “death, misfortune and curse”. The arrow pointing to the right, where the Duda result was placed, was signed with the words: “life, happiness and blessing”.
“There is no third way! How much is your soul worth?” – you can read at the bottom of the poster.
“This is the political neutrality of the Church”
Internet users do not hide their shock at the sign in front of the church. “This is the political neutrality of the church and love for everyone. And apparently there is a place in the church for everyone” – wrote Małgorzata.
“Today, the parish priest of Fara in Kościan put up a poster that offends not only Catholics but also all voters for Mr. Trzaskowski. The percentage distribution visible on the poster is identical to the election results in the city of Kościan. I can only be proud that Kościan voted for the Lord in the vast majority of cases. Trzaskowski “- commented Ms Katarzyna.
– It is a painful matter for us, I did not want to believe that the parish priest allowed such a terrible poster to be put up. We are all outraged – admits Paweł Bramiński, a resident of Kościan, in an interview with TVN24.
– I have been going to this church for forty years, we sponsored this tile, today it turns out that I will not be saved because I voted for Trzaskowski. Thinking people do not want to believe – he says.
Another poster in front of the church
On Wednesday, the poster was gone. There was a card in this place containing, among others the questions “what does it mean to believe” and “is it possible to have a vacation from being a Christian?” From under it, however, the poster that the residents wrote about was clearly visible.
– I did not know that there were other posters, the parish priest probably changed them – the vicar priest told TVN24 on Wednesday.
The parish priest sees nothing wrong with that
On Thursday, in an interview with Nadia Jóźwiak, a TVN 24 reporter, the parish priest confirmed that the posters were his work and he did not see anything wrong with them. As he explained, the poster “is intended to move the spirit and question about faith”. As he added, he respects the choice of the residents, but has the right to ask the residents what path they choose.
– There is only one road. Only truth, honesty, faithfulness, justice. And this applies to both voters for one side and the other, so we do not end here with this poster – says Fr. canon Paweł Skrzypczak, parish priest.
In addition to posters, it also invites residents to discussions. – We respect every choice, but I have a duty to ask my brothers and sisters if they know which way they are going. Perhaps they do not know – he argues.
