Forbes’ list of billionaires includes 40 new people who have made fortunes fighting the pandemic caused by the coronavirus. Their companies produce vaccines, diagnostic tests and protective clothing.
On the list of the richest people in the world “Forbes” there were 2,755 people, 660 more than a year ago, of which 493 are new names. The wealth of the world’s richest people has been estimated at $ 13.1 trillion. In 2020, the fortune of all billionaires was $ 8 trillion.

After the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, markets collapsed, economies around the world fell into recession and hundreds of billionaires dropped out of Forbes’ ranking, the magazine writes.
A year later, the situation of the richest people in the world is quite different – a record number of 493 new billionaires debuted on the Forbes list. Of the nearly five hundred new billionaires, 40 made money in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
40 billionaires who made money fighting the pandemic
Some characters on the list, such as Moderny CEO Stephane Bancel (second on the list out of 40 with $ 4.3 billion) and BioNTech founder Ugur Sahin (fourth $ 4 billion), have become recognizable around the world thanks to vaccines that their companies have produced. Others have made money on protective clothing, diagnostic tests, antibody therapies, and computer software that help authorities organize vaccinations or predict when it is best to introduce and remove restrictions, Forbes writes.
The richest new billionaire of the 40 is Li Jianquan, president of the Chinese medical device manufacturer Winner Medical, whose revenues come from the production of masks and protective suits for front-line medics in the fight against the pandemic. Winner Medical debuted on the stock exchange in September 2020, thanks to which Jianquan immediately became a billionaire – it has 68 percent. shares in the company. His fortune was estimated at $ 6.8 billion.
In third place among the new billionaires who made money from fighting the pandemic was Chinese Liu Fangyi – the founder and head of the medical equipment company Intco Medical, according to Forbes magazine.
Research companies that conduct clinical trials have also been successful – this is how Juan López-Belmonte López (18.18 billion dollars) became a billionaire – head of the pharmaceutical company Rovi and Karin Sartorius-Herbst (9., 2.4 billion) and Ulrike Baro ($ 10.15 billion) from the German company Sartorius AG.

Top of the current ranking the richest people in the world, prepared by Forbes, was Amazon boss Jeff Bezos. His fortune was estimated at $ 177 billion.
