Madagascar’s attorney general, Berthine Razafiarivony, announced Wednesday night that several foreigners and Madagascar citizens had been arrested to prepare for the assassination of President Andra Rajoelina. The murder plan was to be developed by foreigners. Two Frenchmen were arrested in the case.
One of the arrested suspects of the attack on the president of Madagascar is a retired colonel who commanded a French regiment in Chad, the other is a former gendarme who trained commandos in Madagascar. The prosecution did not provide their details, but the names immediately appeared on the internet, where anonymous authors reported that the detainees were Paul Rafanoharana and Philippe-Marc François. Rafanoharana was to be the president’s diplomatic adviser for a short time.
Detention a few days after the demonstrations
In addition to a few foreigners who were to devise a murder plan, Madagascar nationals were also detained, Madagascar’s Attorney General Berthine Razafiarivony said Wednesday evening.
As noted by the Madagascar Tribune, the attempted attack on the Malagasy head of state was reported a few days after demonstrations organized in Paris by representatives of the opposition and less than 48 hours before the congress of the opposition party RMDM former president Marc Ravalomanana.
The portal also recalls that several weeks earlier, attempts were made to allegedly kill several members of the government, including the secretary of state for the national gendarmerie. Six people were arrested in this case.
