Warsaw Police Commander, Chief Inspector Paweł Dobrodziej was taken to hospital after he contracted the coronavirus. His deputy, Włodzimierz Pietroń, responsible for the logistics of the capital garrison, also tested positive.
The first symptoms were felt by the superintendent Paweł Dobrodziej, the head of the capital’s almost 10,000 commanders, during the management briefing. The test performed on the same day confirmed the coronavirus infection. A day later he was taken to hospital.
– The general tested positive and pneumonia. Although he feels good, his health condition requires hospitalization – spokesman for commissioner Sylwester Marczak told us.
According to our information, the general had bronchitis recently. He then took a three-day course of antibiotics and returned to work.
– Although commandant Pietroń also has a positive result, the sources of infection are different, however, observes Commissioner Marczak. The management of the Capital Police Headquarters adopted the rules not to contact each other in person in the spring.
On the other hand, spokesman Marczak, who had contact with General Dobrodziej, is in quarantine.
Paweł Dobrodziej has been in charge of the Warsaw police since autumn 2017.
The difficult situation of the police
According to tvn24.pl, only in the last 24 hours, there were 120 infected policemen in the whole country. In total, across the country, over 1,200 officers have tested positive. In addition, over 2,000 are in quarantine.
– For all this, we have about seven thousand vacancies, because in spring the recruitment was interrupted. The situation of the entire formation becomes difficult – says our interlocutor.
A weakened police force has the same responsibilities, plus quarantine control – around 300,000 people across the country.
