You cannot see that they have started really hard work – this is how the publicist Tomasz Terlikowski spoke about the activities of the members of the state commission for pedophilia in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24. Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski judged that “there is no social control over the committee.”
The State Commission on Pedophilia (full name: State Commission for the investigation of cases of activities directed against sexual freedom and decency against a minor under the age of 15) was established by an act that entered into force in September 2019. The establishment of such a body was announced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after the screening of Tomasz and Marek Sekielski’s film “Just don’t tell anyone”. The members of the commission took the oath in July 2020. The committee is composed of seven members representing the Sejm, Senate, the president, prime minister and the ombudsman for children’s rights.
Among the activities carried out by the committee recently there was the case Father Andrzej Dymer. On February 17 she ended it due to the priest’s death.
“You don’t see they’ve started really hard work”
The effects of the commission’s work were assessed in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 by the publicist Tomasz Terlikowski and the priest Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski. They were asked if in their opinion the committee was independent of political pressure. – My main objection is not whether she is dependent or independent. My main objection is that, although she is quite expensive and although she already conducts 120 cases, 10 percent of which concern clergymen, it does not seem that they have started really hard work – said Terlikowski. He stated that “the commission continues, he gives himself salaries, drives cars, but the activity is invisible”. – Sometimes Mr. (chairman) Ph.D. Błażej Kmieciak will speak, but the other members would not exist – he continued.

He stressed that “it cannot be that this committee is only reactive”.
Father Isakowicz-Zaleski: there is no social control over the committee
Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski expressed his surprise that “many issues are very much publicized by the victims, and it is not apparent that the committee was dealing with it”.
He noted that “in fact, it is not known what the powers of this committee are”. He also pointed out that “there is no social control over the committee.” – I miss a group of people who deal with this, who would have the opportunity to suggest, in the good sense of the word, or point out certain problems to this committee – he continued.
“The unheard-of mixing of church power with state power”
The guests of “Kropka nad i” also talked about how pedophile scandals and the reactions of hierarchs to such cases can affect the image and situation of the Catholic Church in Poland.
Father Isakowicz-Zaleski noticed that “the unheard-of blending of the church power with the state power can be seen.” – History shows that every alliance of the altar with the throne ended very badly – he emphasized.
Tomasz Terlikowski stated that when it comes to the reactions of the representatives of the episcopate to the disclosed cases of sexual abuse, the situation is getting worse. Comparing the reactions from the hierarchs after the premiere of the first film by the Sekielski brothers, i.e. in the spring of 2019, with those that followed this year’s TVN24 report on priest Dymer, he said that “it is worse than it was”.
