We have information about several dozen damaged cars and new reports are still being received – said Sonia Kepper from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Sosnowiec when asked about the effects of the explosion that took place in this city on Saturday. – Estimating the losses will probably continue for the next week – she added.
To strong explosion at Lenartowicza Street in Sosnowiec it happened on Saturday before 1 am. Brick garages and cars were destroyed.
According to the initial information, at least a dozen vehicles parked in and in front of garages were damaged or destroyed. Later it turned out that the cars parked in the nearby parking lot, where fragments of debris had arrived as a result of the explosion, also suffered.

– We have information about several dozen cars and new reports are still flowing in – explained Sonia Kepper, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Sosnowiec. – Not only cars have been damaged, but also gates, windows, doors and facades. About 70 inspections have been carried out so far. The estimation of losses will probably continue for the next week – she added.
The roofs collapsed, the wall toppled over the car
Based on the preliminary findings of the police, submitted over the weekend, it is suspected that the cause of the explosion may have been a leak in the gas network. This will be verified by the Sosnowiec-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office, which will investigate the matter.
Shortly after the action, firefighters described that as a result of the explosion, three garages built in one row – together with the cars standing in them – were completely destroyed, their roofs collapsed. The neighboring ones were damaged, some seriously. In one of them, the wall fell over the car parked inside.
After searching the rubble, it turned out that no one was hurt. For safety reasons, about 400 people were evacuated from two nearby blocks for several hours
