The city announced a competition to run a 24-hour shelter and support point for LGBT + people who found themselves in a difficult life situation. The stay will be interventional and will last a maximum of seven days.
Earlier, the association Miłość Nie Wyklucza informed about the announcement of a competition for the creation of such an institution. As you recalled, the establishment of the facility will be the implementation of the first point of the “Warsaw LGBT + Declaration” prepared by the association Miłość Nie Wyklucza and signed in 2019 by President Rafał Trzaskowski.
The association received the information about the intervention hostel with joy. – We are glad that we can finally praise the city side for fulfilling its obligations. The situation of LGBT + people in Poland and Warsaw is really too difficult to insist on façade and purely image-related activities – commented Hubert Sobecki, co-chairman of the association Miłość Nie Wyklucza.
Maximum three months
Non-governmental organizations may participate in the competition. It concerns “running a 24-hour shelter and intervention support for people with a different psychosexual identity”.
– We must help the victims of violence, and sometimes persecution because of their psychosexual identity, who were forced to leave their current place of residence, as well as those who are already in a homeless crisis. The non-governmental organization that wins the competition will run a center in the city’s premises where people experiencing violence, often without means of livelihood and with the help of their relatives, will find a safe shelter – explains Aldona Machnowska-Góra, vice-president of Warsaw responsible, inter alia, for social affairs.
The tenderer selected in the competition will run flats in the indicated building, to which access for third parties will be limited. The period of stay in the apartment is a maximum of three months. The terms of the competition include providing comprehensive help and psychological support.
– The stay in the apartment will be interventional. It’s all about security. People with a different psychosexual identity, often very young, need such help. It is reported by non-governmental organizations that help people in the crisis of homelessness. We want to provide support, first of all, in providing shelter and conditions for social and professional reintegration, explains Aldona Machnowska-Góra.
First, the facility will admit people last registered in Warsaw. The pilot of the task will last from April 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023, and the city will allocate over PLN 260,000 for its implementation in the first year (including the adaptation of the premises).
The president signed the declaration
Rafał Trzaskowski signed the “Warsaw LGBT + Declaration” in February 2019. The aim of the document prepared by the association Miłość Nie Wyklucza is to improve the situation of LGBT + people in the capital. The document also provides for the creation of an intervention hostel for LGBT + people or the launch of the city’s quick aid mechanism for them, and anti-discrimination education.
In September 2020, activists accused the president of the capitalthat it is failing to fulfill its obligations towards the LGBT + community. “Only one point of the Declaration was realized: Rafał Trzaskowski took the patronage of the Equality Parade in 2019 and took part in it” – they pointed out.
