Two men were arrested for the painting of the church. st. Augustine – informs the Warsaw police. A few days ago, the perpetrators entered the area adjacent to the church at night and painted the temple door with red paint.
The spokesman for the Warsaw Police Headquarters, Sylwester Marczak, informed that the arrest took place on Tuesday. – The detained are residents of Warsaw. These people had not been previously recorded – he explained.
– The police from the property crime department have been working on the case from the beginning – said Marczak, adding that at the moment nothing more could be said. – The activities are in progress – he stressed.
They painted the church with red paint
The men were arrested for the case damage to the facade of the church. st. Augustine at 18 Nowolipki. As reported then by the Warsaw police, the perpetrators on the night of February 19-20, shortly after midnight, entered the area adjacent to the church and painted the front door, the surface in front of the door and the wall with red paint.
Church of St. Augustine at 18 Nowolipki Street is entered in the register of monuments. During the occupation, this neo-Romanesque church from the end of the 19th century on ul. Nowolipki 18 (before the war 48/50) was one of the highest points in Warsaw, situated in the heart of the Jewish district. After the war, it was one of the few buildings remaining in the former ghetto.
