This time not on the Wrocław Market Square, but in a hybrid way – by Pergola and online. The guitarists played Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” together. This time it was not possible to break the Guitar World Record. The mayor of the city, Jacek Sutryk, encouraged to participate in the jubilee 20th edition of the event next year.
The attempt to set the guitar record took place in Wrocław for the 19th time. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event took place entirely on the Internet. The song “Hey Joe” was played together then – in homes, in gardens, on balconies – by 7998 guitar lovers from all over the world. In 2019, 7,423 guitarists played together in Wrocław’s Market Square.
This time the event took place in a hybrid formula – on the Wrocław Pergola in the Hala Stulecia complex and on the Internet.
The guitar feast started at 12 o’clock. In order to play in the Biggest Guitar Orchestra in the World in Wrocław, you had to register in the network beforehand. It was enough to have a guitar or another stringed instrument with you and to know the five chords needed to play the song “Hey Joe”. Those who could not come to Wrocław could join the event online. As the organizers informed, guitarists from all over Poland and the world joined in playing together – from Koszalin and Legnica, through London, to Canada and Australia.
On Saturday, Jan Borysewicz, Łukasz Łyczkowski, Grzegorz Skawiński, Piotr Bukartyk, Wojciech Pilichowski, Adam Palma, Krzesimir Dębski, Natalia Lubrano, Gary Moore Tribute Band, guitarist Ray Charles Kenny Carr and musician of the band Dżem Jerzy Styczyński performed on the stage. On the other hand, Grzegorz and Patrycja Markowski sang online.
No record this time
The attempt to establish the Guitar World Record took place after 4 pm. However, the guitarists did not manage to beat the result from the previous two years. – We would like to thank everyone who, despite the different time and place, took part in the Record, both in Wrocław and on the Internet. It was a great rehearsal before breaking the record next year, when on May 1 we will return to the Market Square and play for the twentieth time – said Leszek Cichoński, the initiator of the event.
The Mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, also encouraged the participation in the jubilee 20th Guitar Record.
